MESSAGE OF THE AACC GENERAL SECRETARY FOR THE THANKSGIVING SERVICE ON SOUTH SUDAN

MESSAGE OF THE AACC GENERAL SECRETARY FOR THE THANKSGIVING SERVICE ON SOUTH SUDAN

Your Graces,

My Lord Bishops,

Your Excellences,

Honorable dignitaries, all protocols observed,

Dear participants,

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

It is a great pleasure and honour for AACC to be associated with the Thanksgiving Service held this day, 30th October 2018, in gratitude to God for how far he has taken our brothers and sisters from South Sudan.

As you may know, the AACC has been journeying with the people of Sudan and South Sudan through many phases of their journey in their search for peace. It got involved in the process leading to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005, the referendum for the self-determination of South Sudan in 2011, the coordination of ecumenical and humanitarian actors in the aftermath of the July 2015 crisis, the accompaniment in trauma healing for South Sudanese women, etc.

Just like the other actors, we are rejoicing and thanking God for his mercy in bringing the top political leaders together for the signing of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) on 12 September 2018, in Khartoum, Sudan.

The AACC is very much aware that the signing of an agreement at political level does not necessarily translate to development and prosperity for all the citizens. That is the reason why the AACC is hereby pledging its renewed commitment to continue journeying with the Church in South Sudan, through the South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC), alongside other stakeholders. We are determined to continue supporting their action as a united front in their commitment to be agents of peace in South Sudan.

Brothers and sisters here present, we urge you to continue keeping the political and Church leadership in South Sudan in your prayers, for God to raise this country from ashes to beauty.

This is our message to you and the people of South Sudan: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”. (Romans 15: 13)
