Goodwill Message For The Enthronment Of The Most Rev. Dr. C. Raphael Opoko - Archbishop Of Umuahia

Dear Archbishop,

It was a privilege for me to receive the invitation as the Guest of Honour to your enthronement slated for 26th February 2017, following your election and investiture as the Archbishop of Umuahia. Unfortunately, I would not be able to attend this important event, due to other commitments.

Your Grace, you are the son of one of the great countries in Africa. Indeed, Nigeria with its more than 189 million people is the largest in Africa, and still counting. It has also borne great people, including authors, artists, politicians, Church leaders, etc. Nigeria with its resources, both human and material, can be a great champion of the African “Agenda 2063: The Africa we want”, the vision for Africa for the 50 years after the Jubilee of the Pan African organization. This aims to have a “United, Prosperous and Peaceful Africa” by the year 2063. We are aware that the density of the population calls for creativity in finding suitable solutions for the welfare of the citizens and the whole of Africa is looking up to your country to lead in that regard.

Your Grace, the Methodist Church in Nigeria which you have been faithfully serving, has been one of the pillars of the All Africa Conference of Churches over the years. We are glad to continue relying on it as we journey and serve Africa together.

Your Grace, you are a product of this great background and the All Africa Conference of Churches is proud to be associated with you and your beloved Church. You purposed to attend the 9th General Assembly in Maputo, Mozambique, and the Jubilee Assembly in Kampala, Uganda, during your tenure as the Secretary of Conference of your beloved Church, the Methodist Church in Nigeria. It is indeed your successful handling of the latter position, which placed you as a favorite candidate for the position of Archbishop, just as Jesus puts it in Matthew 25:23: “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!”

We pray that the Lord himself who has appointed you will continue equipping you for this even greater assignment, for His own glory. We hope that the new constituency you are now in charge of, will grow tremendously under your able leadership.

We want to assure you of our prayers and are looking forward to even more collaboration with your beloved Church through you.

Yours at His Service,
