On 18th November, General Secretary, All Africa conference of Churches (AACC), Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, Rev. Dr. Lesmore Ezekiel of AACC and Rev. Dr. Ibrahim Wushishi, General Secretary, Council of Churches in Nigeria, had the honor of an audience with H. E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria in Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo accorded AACC delegates high respect and long time to share his wisdom on various issues in Africa, as a devout Christian committed to unity. He accepted two requests from AACC. First, to make himself available to accompany AACC peace efforts in Africa and second, to be a patron of AACC program on African patriotism.
The AACC in its 2019-2023 Strategy intends to conduct a continental campaign on youth and African patriotism themed “Africa: My home. My Future ” to inspire young people to love their countries and harness their talents in their countries. This campaign proposes to invest in the youth in Africa and rekindle the spirit of Pan African Movement, which in 1945 was spearheaded by young people and hold biennial All Africa Youth Congress where young people will gather and affirm their commitment to the continent.
AACC looks forward to his support and patronage as we prepare the first Pan African Youth Congress next year, 2020, in Ghana. AACC intended to invite 5000 youth but Chief Obasanjo spontaneously added to 10,000!
“It is not easy to get such a Pan Africanist, exemplary democratic president with such a broad continental experience and reach,” says Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki.
