The All Africa Conference Of Churches Congratulates The New President of Malawi, His Excellency, Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, On His Inauguration as Head of State

The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) would like to congratulate the new President of Malawi, His Excellency, Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, on his being sworn in as the country’s 6th President.

Africa does not have many examples of opposition candidates winning elections over incumbents in peaceful elections. For this election, the AACC congratulates the people of Malawi for their determination in securing their future by carrying out a peaceful election, which has been widely hailed as free, fair and credible.

As President Chakwera takes office, we at the AACC acknowledge how complex and challenging the task of leading a secular government is for a cleric.  We pray for him that the spiritual gifts will be manifested through forgiveness, integrity, spirituality, goodwill to all people, and a higher mission to lead God’s people to their preferred future, overcoming perennial issues like youth unemployment, corruption, poverty, bad governance, among others.  We pray that he will not lose sight of the most vulnerable, including widows, orphans, and people with disabilities as he steers the country to development of all people.

At AACC, we continue to stand with the people of Malawi in this time of transition and we would like to request all our members to continue praying for Malawi, the president and the people of Malawi as they look forward towards a prosperous future.   The AACC will continue to work and accompany our member churches from Malawi and the Malawi Council of Churches, as they support the government in many of the initiatives we are undertaking in the continent of Africa.

God bless you. God bless Malawi.

Rev. Dr Fidon Mwombeki
