The All Africa Conference Of Churches Congratulates Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the Africa Development Bank, on his election to a Second Term
The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) would like to most sincerely congratulate Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, on his re-election, and subsequent inauguration, as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) for a second term.
The AACC notes that Dr. Adesina received 100 per cent of the votes cast, a ringing endorsement of the confidence the shareholders have in his leadership and stewardship of this esteemed continental body, since taking over in 2015.
In the last five years, Dr. Adesina has steered the Bank towards an increasingly strategic role in providing much needed development finance in the continent, especially in the context of customizing African solutions to African problems.
Under Dr. Adesina’s leadership, the AfDB has made major strides, and especially growing to become a rapid response institution for Africa’s challenges. Indeed, AACC is delighted that AfDB moved swiftly to create a fund to assist African countries deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
We note that during the Presidency of Dr. Adesina, the Bank has impacted 335 million Africans across the continent in the areas of access to electricity, improved technologies for food security, private investment, improved transport, and water and sanitation.
As an apex continental institution, AACC feels very gratified that an African financial institution, run by Africans for Africans, has been recognized globally for consistently keeping to the highest standards of good governance. AfDB has been ranked as the 4th most transparent multilateral institution globally by Publish What You Fund.
As a pivotal and highly influential institution in the African continent, AfDB is uniquely positioned to seek ways of encouraging its clients, the governments of Africa, to address the growing challenge of unsustainable debts and corruption.
It is AACC’s hope and desire that apex continental bodies, at this level, can collaborate to address this scourge that is adversely impacting development in Africa. AACC stands ready to collaborate with AfDB wherever possible in this endeavor.
AACC calls upon the congregation of Christians throughout Africa to pray for Dr. Adesina, that the Almighty may grant him good health, fortitude, courage and wisdom to ensure success in his second term, as he continues with the great work he is doing of uplifting the wellbeing of God’s people.
May God bless him abundantly, and God bless Africa.
