The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) would like to most sincerely congratulate the newly elected President of the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Wavel Ramkalawan, on his election victory, and being sworn in as the country’s 5th President.
The AACC is especially proud of the new president, having come from among the ranks of the clergy. President Ramkalawam is an Anglican cleric. Expectations for the new President for a leadership of integrity are, therefore, high in a country facing challenges like other African countries. AACC wishes him all the best, as he embarks on his mission to improve people’s lives.
The democratic elections and peaceful transition is a great example to be emulated in the rest of Africa where, more often than not, elections are a great source of tension, violence and great disruption of people’s lives.
We would also like to pay tribute to the outgoing President, Danny Faure, who has received praise for his conduct during the electioneering and transition periods, for practicing true democracy.
AACC asks that the ecumenical movement prays for the new president, for God to give him wisdom, courage and resilience to carry out a mandate for which he has long desired, and fought for.
May God Bless the Republic of Seychelles.
