Solidarity Message To The Churches In Egypt

10 April 2017

Dear AACC member churches in Egypt,

It is with great shock that we heard the news of the attacks on Cathedrals, the St. George Coptic Cathedral in Santa and the St. Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria and rumors of another one next to a Roman Orthodox Church, also in Alexandria, causing deaths and injuring many others. This happened while they were celebrating Palm Sunday, the triumphal entry of our Lord into Jerusalem, an important day in the Christian calendar.

The AACC member churches hereby want to express their solidarity with you at these difficult times and want to assure you of their prayers as you face this violence.

We are asking the Lord to continue strengthening you, so that your faith would not be shaken by any of these events.

Luke 6: 22-23 says:

“Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets”.

And also Matthew 5: 43-44:

You have heard that it was said: “Love your neighbour and hate your enemy”. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

By copy of this letter, we ask the entire membership of the AACC and partners to remember our brothers and sisters, who were victims of these unfortunate incidents.

Yours in the Service of the Lord,
