AACC 6th Annual Theological Symposium Opens in Nairobi Kenya

With the theme, ‘African Churches on Israel and Palestine, the theological symposium opened on 7th October 2025 at the Desmond Tutu Conference Center with over 100 church leaders and scholars participating. It began with an opening worship service during which the AACC President, Rt. Rev. Lydia Chituku-Neshangwe called for a Christian activism for justice driven by the love of God and humanity.

The AACC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki opened the theological symposium with thought provoking remarks calling for a renewed focus on constructive theological engagement among African Churches and Christians. He emphasized that genuine theological reflections should start transformative conversations. Dr. Mwombeki noted that the symposium is expected to serve as a stimulus for vital debates on the African Christians perspectives on how their faith links with the modern state of Israel and Palestine as a whole.

“How Christians relate to the state of Israel and Palestine compels a difficult conversation on whether the Church should support the stance that Israel is committing genocide against Palestine (as presented by South Africa) or align with Christian Zionists who advocate for removing non-Jewish people from the land to hasten the second coming of Christ." Noted the General Secretary.

Dr. Mwombeki clarified that the theological symposium is designed to bring together experts to have deep, respectful theological conversations that allow for diverse viewpoints to find common convergence, thereby stimulating necessary critical thought within the African church and beyond.
