AACC Continental Round Table on Ecological and Economic Justice Policy Advocacy Kicks Off in Accra
On 19th May 2026, the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) convened a Continental Round Table on Ecological and Economic Justice Policy Advocacy in Accra, Ghana. The meeting was organised in collaboration with the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) under the theme: “Aligning Faith-Based Advocacy with the Changing Ecological and Economic Development Landscape.”
The round table aims to provide a platform for faith actors across the continent to reflect on pressing ecological and economic justice challenges, with the aim of strengthening policy advocacy at both national and continental levels. Participants include heads of AACC member churches, General Secretaries of National Councils of Churches, as well as women and youth representatives from twenty-four African countries.
In his welcoming remarks, the Chairman of the CCG and the Africa Faith Actors Network for Climate Justice (AFAN-CJ), Rt. Rev. Lt. Col. Dr. Bliss Agbeko, described the gathering as both timely and necessary. He noted that while Africa is richly endowed with natural resources, it continues to face persistent underdevelopment. He therefore urged faith actors to take a more active role in the governance and stewardship of the continent’s natural resources.
Rev. Dr. Lesmore Gibson Ezekiel, the AACC Director for Peace, Ecclesial Leadership, Development, Interfaith and Theology, called for “local solutions to local problems in Africa.” He reaffirmed AACC’s commitment to accompanying its member churches across the continent in advancing ecological and economic justice through effective policy influence and advocacy.
The first day of the round table featured presentations from delegates on national contexts relating to ecological justice. The meeting is scheduled to run until 21st May 2026.
