AACC Convenes a Continental Capacity Strengthening Workshop on Advocacy for Environmental Care, Stewardship and Economic Justice
To provide a platform for deepening the capacity of faith actors on environmental care, stewardship and economic justice, the AACC has convened a capacity strengthening workshop on Advocacy for the Africa Faith Actors Network for Climate Justice (AFAN-CJ) and Economic Justice Champions across the continent, in Nairobi Kenya. The workshop will run until 31st July and is expected to contribute to the faith positions for engagement at upcoming policy platforms such as the Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa and COP30 in Brazil.
While welcoming the participants on behalf of the AACC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Lesmore G. Ezekiel, AACC Director for Peace, Ecclesial Leadership, Development, Interfaith Relations & Theology expressed that the workshop brings together participants to repent complacency in the destruction of the planet.
“We have been given an obligation to build, reconstruct and take on the forces that up to destroy our common home, the earth.” He said. “We are here to reason together and develop a feasible mechanism through which we can promote economies of life and nurture the responsible stewardship.” He emphasized.
To set the tone of the workshop, Sheikh Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari, the AFAN-CJ Vice Chairperson and Bishop Dr. Emily Onyango of the Anglican Church of Kenya presented theological reflections on Climate Change from Christian and Muslim Perspectives.
“Our theme for this workshop is, ‘The Walfare of the Earth is Our Welfare’ and is based on Jeremiah 29:7.” Noted Ms. Grace Gwanella Cangy, a youth participant from Mauritius, as she moderated the first day of the workshop.
