AACC General Committee Convenes in Nairobi, Kenya
The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) General Committee is meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, at the Desmond Tutu Conference Centre from 19 – 20 November 2025. The General Committee is the highest-level governing body in between AACC’s General Assemblies and it meets after every 18 months. This marks the second in-person gathering of the committee since their election at the 12th General Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria, in November 2023. On the previous day, the Finance and Personnel Committee met to scrutinize the AACC’s budgetary framework and personnel matters, preparing recommendations for ratification by the General Committee.
Chaired by the AACC President, Very Rev. Lydia Neshangwe, the General Committee meeting opened its proceedings today with a Morning Devotion led by Rev. Fay Clare Van Eeden from the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa. Reflecting on the Gospel according to St. Mathew 23:23-24, Rev. Van Eeden challenged the committee members to uphold the core values of the Gospel in their work and decision-making processes. Her reflection centered on the New Testament’s call to prioritize the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness over mere procedural adherence. The message served as a powerful reminder that the work of the AACC must be rooted not only in strong management but also in a deep commitment to serving the marginalized and advocating for a just society across Africa.
During the two days meeting, the General Committee will receive and discuss the AACC General Secretary’s report, Finance and Personnel Committee report and reports from the Presidium and Board of Trustees. All reports are meant to provide a comprehensive overview of the AACC's operations since the last meeting of the General Committee. This meeting will also deliberate on AACC membership matters and plans for AACC’s next General Assembly expected to take place in 2028.
A cornerstone of the AACC’s strength is its broad representation, and the current General Committee meeting is robustly constituted. Delegates representing all major geographical and confessional regions of Africa are present, ensuring that the diverse voices, unique challenges, and contextual realities from across the continent are integral to the decision-making process.
