The AACC General Committee Convenes in Nairobi – Kenya for their Governance meetings
Members of the AACC General Committee 2024 – 2028 are convening in Nairobi, kenya for their governance meetings. The meetings kicked off on 7th May 2024 with business sessions of the Finance and Personnel Committee and Board of Trustees.
Yesterday, 6th May 2024, the General Committee met for orientation about their roles and responsibilities as a governance body. The day began with a biblical reflection from the Rt Rev Marie Kamwaya, Bishop of the Church of Christ Light of the Holy Spirit in Congo. Reflecting on Exodus 18:21, Bishop Marie urged members of the General Committee to uphold the Christian and leadership values of integrity, humility, love and obedience to God.
“One of the key objectives of our meeting today is for us to understand our mandate as the General Committee but also the functions of other governance bodies.” Noted the AACC president, Rt. Rev. Lydia Neshangwe as she introduced the session.
Rev Dr John Njoroge, Executive Secretary for Theology and Interfaith Relations led the meeting in revisiting the 60-year history of the AACC while Ms. Ann Kioi, Executive Secretary for Programmes Development and Fundraising presented about the AACC’s partnerships and collaborations.
“The General Committee fulfills all the functions of the General Assembly between the meetings of the General Assemblies.” Noted Prof. Ruth Waweru as she discussed the role of governance in the life and work of the AACC.
The orientation also involved discussing the tasks of the Finance and Personnel Committee, Board of Trustees, Presidium and the Executive Committees. The meeting also took time to study the organization’s constitution, and the Governance bodies’ standing orders.
As she led the discussion on the administrative issues on standing orders, Ms. Evelyne Okunda, the Executive Secretary in the office of the General Secretary assured the General Committee of all the needed support for them to execute their duties and functions. The orientation concluded with members of the General committee presenting the gifts they carried for the AACC to the General Secretary.
“Thank you very much for these wonderful gifts. We have a plan of dedicating every floor of the AACC buildings here to a particular African region and these are going to be very instrumental in achieving this.” Said the General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki as he expressed his gratitude to the General Committee.
