AACC Hosts Webinar Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Fellowship of the Least Coin

On May 21, 2026, the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) convened women and youth from its member churches for a call-to-prayer webinar to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Fellowship of the Least Coin (FLC), emphasizing the movement’s enduring legacy of prayer, solidarity, and women’s empowerment. The virtual celebration was hosted by Ms. Faustina Nillan, AACC Programme Executive for Gender and Women. The program featured a rich tapestry of prayers, historical reflections, and testimonies, highlighting success stories from women church leaders whose work has been instrumental in shaping Christian mission across the continent through FLC initiatives.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Ann Kioi, AACC Director for Gender, Women, Youth, and Sustainable Population, traced the movement’s origins to the 1950s. She honored the vision of Shanti Solomon, who encouraged Christian women to pray for the world and set aside their "least coin" as a tangible act of faith, reconciliation, and collective responsibility to support the church's missional work.
Participants shared impactful stories of how FLC grants have transformed their local communities. From Uganda, Betty Mutunda highlighted projects addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) through awareness campaigns, advocacy training, and economic empowerment. Rev Dyna TRIMOZAFY from Madagascar showcased a literacy program that has empowered women to assume active leadership roles in both church and society and Rev. Workenesh Getachew from Ethiopia highlighted the role of the FLC in strengthening the capacity of church leaders in preventing human trafficking and respond to trauma in their communities. Furthermore, Rev. Dr. Lydia Mwaniki, the former AACC Director for Women and Gender, reflected on FLC-supported initiatives providing stability and empowerment to widows in Kenya, Cameroon, and Burundi.

Mrs. Veronica Muchiri detailed how the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Women’s Guild mobilizes contributions through structured fellowships. she noted that "during the annual PCEA Guild Week, the FLC is prioritize and the collected coins are brought to the church and dedicated. The funds are managed through official PCEA administrative channels. A portion of these funds is utilized directly by the PCEA to provide educational scholarships for students in need and to support grassroots empowerment programs such as those for widows and teenage mothers. The remaining portion is remitted to the International Committee of the Fellowship of the Least Coin for the international ecumenical pool through the AACC.

The webinar concluded with prayers for peace, justice and healing, and a formal call to action, encouraging participants, churches, and individuals to join the movement and sustain its spirit of generosity as a sign of faith, unity, and hope.
