AACC members charged to continue the fight Against SGBV beyond the 16 days of Activism
As the 2024 16 days of activism came to an end, the AACC hosted a multi-stakeholders Forum on overcoming femicides on 9th December 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya. This was one of the various activities carried out during this season to strengthen the African churches commitment to ending all forms of SGBV in Africa.
Other activities carried out by the AACC member included to mark the season included the schools and community outreach programs creating awareness about the prevalence, causes and effects of SGBV, bible study workshops promoting transformative masculinities and femininities, and social media advocacy campaigns for Gender Justice led by 25 youth leaders. These were conducted under the theme of the churches campaign against SGBV in Africa: Let Love Lead: End GBV Now! Through these various activities, thousands of young people were mobilized to undertake the All Africa Youth Network Pledge of Commitment against SGBV and all forms of violence.
During the stakeholders Forum on overcoming femicides, Archbishop Makarios of the Orthodox Church of Kenya affirmed that despite the doctrinal differences, all Christians agree that human dignity is sacred and have a divine mandate to pursue justice. He charged Christians to continue the fight against SGBV beyond the 16 days of activism, urging them to go an extra mile in supporting victims and survivors of SGBV find Justice and healing.
“We cannot stop emphasizing that our silence enables violence." Noted Ms. Faustina Nillan, the AACC Programme Executive for Gender and Women as she addressed the forum.
The forum issued a call to all stakeholders in the fight against SGBV for collective efforts to words creating a safer and more just society.
