AACC Mourns the Demise of Rev. Dr. Peter Cruchley
On 16th August 2025, we received the sorrowful news about the death of our friend and fellow servant in the Lord’s vineyard, Rev. Dr. Peter Cruchley, Director for the World Council of Churches Commission for World Mission and Evangelism (WCC-CWME). We are very saddened by Peter’s demise and extend our condolences to his family, friends, colleagues at the WCC, members of the WCC-CWME and the entire ecumenical movement.
For Peter, Africa was home and the AACC enjoyed working with him on various occasions, the most recent one being organizing the first in-person meeting of the WCC-CWME hosted at the AACC headquarters in July 2024. He will be greatly missed, and his legacy will live on.
As WCC-CWME Director, Peter perceived and approached Christian mission and evangelism as a mechanism for the total transformation of lives, social structures and societal systems to end all forms of marginalization, discrimination, and oppression. His consistent call to the church and the entire world to address legacies of slavery and colonialism together with his efforts to end inequalities will remain a lasting footprint on our journey towards a just, inclusive and peaceful world.
May the Lord in whose loving embrace Peter now rests comfort and strength us as we grieve his departure and celebrate his life.
Amen.
