AACC Receives the AU ECOSOCC Award.
In recognition of The All Africa Conference of Churches’ work with the African Union, the AU ECOSOCC presented the AACC with an award that was given to the General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, by Dr. Gorden Simango, the Director of the AACC liaison office to the AU on the 3rd of October 2024.
Established in July 2004 as an Advisory Organ composed of different social and professional groups of AU Member States, the ECOSOCC’s mandate is to provide a platform for African Civil Society Organizations to contribute through advice and effectively translate the objectives, principles, and policies of the African Union into concrete programs and their evaluation.
Over the years, the AACC has engaged with AU ECOSOCC through various activities to project the voice of Faith-Based Actors in enhancing the work of the African Union.
Since 2022, the AACC and AU ECOSOCC have partnered to organize citizens' forums through the Enhancing capacities of the AACC to heighten its advocacy role for Human dignity and Justice in the continent program.
The Citizens Forum is an inclusive platform where civil society organizations, stakeholders, and citizens can engage in meaningful dialogue on pressing governance issues. Since its inception, the Citizens' Forum has grown in scale and impact, becoming a cornerstone of ECOSOCC's engagement with the African populace.
As an institution, AACC continues to develop strategic partnerships to build strong, resilient, and accountable institutions that enhance democracy on the African continent.
