AACC Statement on the Security and Humanitarian Situation in the Eastern Part of DRC

“This is what the Sovereign LORD says: You have gone far enough, princes of Israel! Give up your violence and oppression and do what is just and right. Stop dispossessing my people, declares the Sovereign LORD.” Ezekiel 45:9 (NIV)

AACC is troubled by the deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in the North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In this chaotic and trying time, the AACC sympathizes with the people of DRC for the pain, suffering, displacements and the loss of lives and property caused by the ongoing war.

AACC believes that peace talks can create a foundation for an agreement to end conflict and hence reduce harm to the affected communities. We, therefore, encourage all parties to the conflict to think towards the common good, safety and dignity of the people of DRC, and do everything possible to end the ongoing-armed conflict.

As we continue to work with the Church of Christ in DRC and the churches in the Great lakes region to accompany the people of Eastern DRC through this ‘valley of darkness,’ we call on all people of faith to uphold prayers for DRC, urge the international community and all stakeholders to do everything possible to facilitate the restoration of peace in the communities under siege,  and the process of healing the wound created by the armed conflict.  Furthermore, we encourage all people of good will to extend relief to the affected communities, especially those facing displacement and in dire need of the basic needs of life

May the God of life, love, peace and comfort intervene in this situation!

Yours in Christ

Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki
AACC General Secretary.
