Commission for World Mission and Evangelism Celebrates EDAN’s 25th Anniversary

Since its establishment by the World Council of Churches (WCC) General Assembly in Harare, 1998, the Ecumenical Disability Advocates Network (EDAN) champions the ecumenical response to disability across the world. Hosted by the All Africa Conference of Churches Secretariat in Nairobi Kenya, EDAN strives to improve the livelihoods of persons with disabilities through advocating for their inclusion, participation and active involvement in all spiritual, social, economic and structural lives of church and society.

The network’s 25th anniversary was celebrated on 8th July 2024 during the Commission for World Mission and Evangelism meeting at Desmond Tutu Hotel and Conference center, in Nairobi Kenya.

During the Celebration, Rev. Dr. Kuzipa Nalwamba, WCC’s Director for Unity, Mission, and Ecumenical Formation highlighted the transformative role of EDAN's work in the life of the WCC, underscoring its significance on the Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation and Unity.

"EDAN has given us the space to tell our own story." Expressed EDAN’s Executive secretary, Mrs. Angeline Okola during her remarks.

Mr. Idris Balogun, a youth member of the commission described the anniversary as an inspiration to all efforts towards ending discrimination of any nature.
