The Council of Churches in Sierra Leone celebrates its Centenary anniversary
The Council of Churches in Sierra Leon concluded its 100th anniversary celebrations in Freetown on the 22nd of September. Founded in 1924, the council has 35-member churches that uphold the same belief in the one eternal God, creator, and Lord of the world. The AACC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, graced the centenary anniversary celebrations, among other ecumenical leaders.
The General Secretary commended the CCSL for its exceptional work in promoting unity among the different Christian denominations in Sierra Leone. Reflecting on the CCSL's trials and tribulations, he praised the council's leadership for ensuring its solidarity through their relentless efforts to foster unity among the member churches. In his fraternal greetings, shared on the 21st, during the 9th Triennial General Assembly, Dr. Fidon applauded the CCSL for its contribution to the growth and work of the AACC.
“We want to certainly recognize the many who have served on the governance bodies of AACC, most recently and prominently providing the president of AACC in the person of the Bishop Emeritus Arnold Temple.” Said Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki
During his sermon on Sunday, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki reminded the congregation of the importance of looking back and acknowledging how far the Lord has brought us. Reflecting on the journey of the churches in Sierra Leon since the pre-colonial period, he pointed out that it is pretty disheartening to see the continent still facing issues, such as poverty and misleading theologies from the church to its congregation. He emphasized the need to empower and support young people to build a future of hope on the continent.
“This aligns with the Africa: My Home. My Future campaign at AACC of young people to encourage patriotism.” He affirmed.
