Message of Solidarity with the People of Ethiopia

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalms 46:1, KJV)

We are deeply saddened by the impacts of the landslides that occurred in the Gezei Gofa Woreda, southern Ethiopia following the heavy rains on 21 and 22 July. The calamity has claimed more than 250 people ‘s lives and left over 15,000 people devastated by the losses of their loved ones, and livelihoods.

Holding unto the words of the Psalmist in Psalms 46:1, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families that have lost loved ones to this disaster and express our solidarity with the AACC member churches in Ethiopia, all people in Ethiopia, and the Ethiopian government as they face such a challenging time.

We greatly appreciate the local people, rescue teams and humanitarian agencies working together with the government to meet the needs of the affected people. Additionally, we encourage for more humanitarian support towards the affected communities during this very trying moment.
