"Tax reforms negotiations should be inclusive." AACC urges the G20 Interfaith and PaRD Forum in Brazil
Between 19th and 23rd August 2024, the AACC participated in the G20 Interfaith Forum (IF20) and PaRD Annual Forum on Religion and Sustainable Development in Brasilia, Brazil. Inspired by Brazil’s G20 theme; Building a just world and a sustainable planet, the global gathering brought together a diverse array of stakeholders in the world’s sustainable development agenda, including representatives from various faith and Indigenous cultural traditions. AACC’s delegates included the Programmes Development and Fundraising officer; Ms Ann Kioi, Programme Executive for the Horn of Africa Peace Project; Ms Mahlet Abrehem, and All Africa Youth Network (AAYN) member, Ms. Juan Racheal.
While speaking on a panel on Global Tax Reforms, Ann condemned the unjust economic systems that continue to sustain overwhelming levels of inequalities between the few rich individuals and majority of the global citizens. She called for reforms in the global tax architecture that could result into fair taxation policies and put an end to illicit financial flows in Africa.
"Negotiations leading to these reforms should be inclusive." She emphasized.
Mahlet facilitated an experience sharing session on Engaging Youth in Africa for transformative change. During this session, the AAYN's Campaign on Pan-Africanism under the theme: Africa: My Home. My Future. was celebrated for its ability to inspire African youth to positively transform Africa’s narrative and champion the continents sustainable development.
"Moving forward, we need to be intentional about breaking institutional and systemic barriers to meaningful youth participation in continental and global developmental agenda." Expressed AACC's youth delegate, Ms. Juan during another panel discussion.
