"We must live as ambassadors of the Compelling Love Christ” Rev Dr Yonas Yigezu Dibisa Charges AACC’s New General Committee
The 12th General Assembly ended with a worship service during which the newly elected General Committee was inducted and prayers were said for Rev Dr Fidon Mwombeki who continues to serve the AACC as General Secretary after his re-election by the General Committee ahead of the General Assembly.
Rev Dr Yonas Yigezu Dibisa, President of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, and Rev Canon Jane Mwangagi Member of the AACC Board of Trustees from the Anglican members led the worship service.
Reflecting on 2 Corinthians 5:14-20, Rev Yonas charged the Christian family at the 12th General Assembly to go out and live in obedience to the call for them to live as vessels of Christ’s love in the wounded world. He urged them to pursue righteousness in the face of wickedness, justice in the face of atrocities, and unity at all times.
“Having spent the last four days here worshipping together, engaging in constructive dialogues, and strengthening our relationship as members of one family, it's now time to go home and do God’s will,” he noted. “Much as the assembly closes now, the journey of fostering unity among Christians across Africa continues,” he said.
He stressed that this journey would only be possible with the accompaniment of God.
“There is so much expected from the AACC in promoting evangelism, ecological stewardship, justice, peace and security, reconciliation, and democratic governance, yet the resources are limited. However, when we put to good use what we have God will multiply the fruits of our work.” Mentioned Rev Yonas as he encouraged the new leaders to rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit as they serve Africa’s largest and leading ecumenical body.
