AACC Equips Youth Leaders to Promote SRHR and Sustainable Families in Zambia

Harmful sexual practices, the continued spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, unsustainable population growth, gender-based violence, the spread of inaccurate and misleading messages and information on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and limited access to SRHR services continue to limit the wellbeing of many African young people. AACC has remained committed to responding to these challenges to human dignity through its various programmes aimed at enabling humanity to experience the abundant life that Christ gives to all according to John 10:10.

Between 27th and 31st May 2024, the AACC equipped 22 youth leaders with knowledge, skills and tools to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights, and sustainable families in Africa, and commissioned them as Ecumenical Health Ambassadors.  The training was hosted by the United Church in Zambia (UCZ) and facilitated by AACC’s Executive Youth Secretary, Muyunga Brian.

While introducing the training, Brian retaliated that the campaign on Africa: My Home. My Future. recognizes that promoting SRHR, and the culture of establishing sustainable families are key for Africa’s sustainable development.

In his opening remarks, Rev. Chipasha Musaba, UCZ’s General Secretary emphasized that SRHR and sustainable population growth are essential for building a secure, peaceful and prosperous Africa.  Quoting Proverbs 4:7, he underlined the importance youth being empowered with accurate knowledge and information to enable them to make informed choices on sex and reproduction.

“I have learnt how to develop and facilitate contextual bible studies and I am looking forward to using this technique to initiate conversations on body autonomy, period poverty and the access to sexual and reproductive health services and rights in my community.” Noted Ms. Beauty Mambai, a participant from the salvation Army, Zambia, as she shared her major lessons from the training.
