Capacity Strengthening Workshop on Ethical Leadership Charges Youth leaders to be Drivers of Active Citizenship and Social Transformation

AACC’s Pan-African Campaign on Africa: My Home. My future. tasks youth leaders with the responsibility of mobilizing young people to be active citizens who exercise their agency to drive positive changes within their communities.

This capacity strengthening workshop was organized to equip the youth leaders with knowledge and skills of ethical leadership and offer them a platform to strengthen their ecumenical solidarity in promoting active citizenship and social transformation in Kenya.

Happening between 20th and 22nd March 2024 at Desmond Tutu Conference Center, the workshop convened 26 youth leaders from AACC’s member churches in Kenya and was facilitated by AACC’s Executive Secretary, Youth, Muyunga Brian, Dr. Stanley Ndung'u, a researcher and consultant on business, entrepreneurship, leadership and Management, and AACC’s Programme Assistant. Ms Joan Mwayo.

“We need you to grow into ethical, and transformative leaders who leave a positive impact everywhere God places you to serve.” Emphasized MS. Phyllis Brewah, AACC Director for Finance and Administration as she welcomed the participants into the Bishop Kibira House for their interaction with various Administrative and Programmes staff on strategic leadership and means of addressing ethical challenges.

“The training has transformed my perspective on ecumenism. I have learned that Ecumenism is the only way through which Christians join hands to address the challenges faced by the church and the world at large” Noted James Mwaura, the Chairperson for the Orthodox Christian Association of Kenya.

While delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of all participants, Ms. Vivian Wanjiku Ritho, a participant from the Anglican Church of Kenya and Member of the AACC General Committee affirmed that the training empowered the youth leaders to own and work for the realization of the Agenda 2063: the Africa We Want.

At the end of the training, the participants developed an action plan that they will follow in localizing the campaign on Africa: My Home. My Future. and contribute to the implemention of the AACC 2024 – 2028 strategy.

“I would like to close this workshop with the words written in Exodus 18:19-22.” Said Fr. Dr. John Njoroge, AACC’s Executive Secretary for Theology and Interfaith Relations as he closed the training. “Be leaders who fear God, have integrity, and hate gains that come from unethical means” He charged the participants.
