AACC signs an MoU with the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR)
On 14th March 2024, the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and the International Conference on The Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) signed an MoU to solidify their partnership in Peacebuilding and Promoting Reconciliation, Democracy, Sustainable Development, Economic Stewardship, and Gender Equality. The MoU was signed at the AACC headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya by the AACC General Secretary, Rev Dr Fidon Mwombeki, and the ICGLR General Secretary, Ambassador João Samuel Caholo.
The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is an inter-governmental organization of the countries in the African Great Lakes Region. The organization is composed of twelve-member states: Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Republic of South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia. Established under the umbrella of the United Nations and the African Union, ICGLR coordinates the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability, and Development in the Great Lakes Region: a legal framework and an agenda of the ICGLR aiming at creating the conditions for security, stability, and development between the member states.
Speaking at this occasion, the Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki passionately urged African countries to prioritize their peace in all their Agenda.
“I am glad that we are signing this MoU today because it is very important that institutions with similar ambitions work together.” Dr. Fidon expressed as he stressed that no single organization can tackle the challenges humanity faces alone.
Ambassador João Samuel Caholo echoed this sentiment, highlighting the pivotal role of faith-based organizations like AACC in mobilizing citizens for peacebuilding and peacekeeping processes. He explained that by aligning their work with the seven aspirations of the African Union Agenda 2063, AACC and ICGLR will continue working together in promoting the well-being of all people in the Great Lakes region.
