AACC General Secretary Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki Highlights Importance of Science and Faith in his Keynote Address at St. Paul's University Graduation

On November 15, 2024, St. Paul’s University held its 33rd graduation, marking a significant milestone for the graduates and their families. The theme, "Nexus of Faith, Science, and Technology for Global Transformation," was a call to action and a vision for the future.

The ceremony featured a distinguished guest, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, General Secretary of the All Africa Conference of Churches, whose keynote speech left a profound impression on the attendants. Welcomed by the Chancellor, Hon. Prof. Margaret Kobia, Rev. Dr. Mwombeki expressed gratitude for the collaboration between St. Paul’s University and the AACC, particularly through the Master of Theology in Ecumenical Leadership program hosted at the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation, Kitwe, Zambia.

In his address, Rev. Dr. Mwombeki highlighted the need to embrace both science and technology as divine gifts, urging graduates to use these tools to further humanity's progress. He emphasized the celebration of human intellect as a testament to mankind being created in God's image. His speech was a call to action for the church and its followers to integrate scientific reasoning into their faith and challenge harmful beliefs that diminish Africa's global standing.

Dr. Mwombeki recounted cases of communities transformed by technology, lifting lives from poverty and despair. However, he cautioned that progress must be tempered with ethics, stating, "Do not just do anything because it is doable."

As he concluded, Rev. Dr. Mwombeki congratulated the graduates, quoting 1 Corinthians 10:31, urging everyone to do everything for God's glory. Hon. Prof. Kobia praised his speech as profound and thought-provoking.

Dr. Mwombeki's address was not just a reflection of current realities but a blueprint for the future. He called on the church to be at the forefront of scientific and technological advocacy, bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and modern innovation.
