AACC Statement On Peace Talks For Peace In Ethiopia

STATEMENT ON PEACE TALKS FOR PEACE IN ETHIOPIA

The All Africa Conference of Churches is pleased by the recent positive development where both the Ethiopia's government and Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) have accepted an invitation by the African Union to participate in the very first peace talks aimed at ending a two-year conflict that killed thousands of civilians and uprooted millions.

The AACC believes that peace talks can create a foundation for an eventual agreement to end conflict and hence reduce harm to communities. It therefore commends and congratulates the African Union for this great move. The AACC encourages the team of mediators under the leadership of Olusegun Obasanjo, the AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa, with support from former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and former South African deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka to create conditions for the peace talks to be as inclusive as possible for a public acceptance and come up with an agreement which will create a mutual gain for all the parties.

The AACC calls on all people of faith to uphold prayers for the peace talks and is ready and available for any other related accompaniment in its capacity.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God". (Matthew 5: 9)

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki
