Commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Peace

The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) joins the world in commemorating the International Day of Peace observed annually on 21st September. This year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World”, calls us to reflect on our responsibility to entrench culture of sustainable peace, foster reconciliation, unity, and healing in the face of violent conflicts, political instability, strife, and socioeconomic challenges.

It is undeniable that peace is not just the mere absence of war, but the presence of justice, cohesion, healing, and respect for human dignity. Our faith mandates us to be intentional in actions for sustainable peace that allows for sustainable development to happen. Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God” remains our inspiration.

Peace work is cardinal in the life and ministry of AACC. As we commemorate this day, we:

  • Reaffirm our commitment to accompany communities in peace building, reconciliation, and mediation initiatives and efforts across Africa.

  • Call on our governments, faith actors, and other stakeholders to collaboratively work towards addressing the root causes of conflict, including poverty, corruption, and inequality, among others.

  • Urge all our members to dedicate this day to pray and reflect on ways contribute to the realization of sustainable peace anchored on authentic justice according to God’s plans.

As AACC, we pledge to keep working with all stakeholders to advance peace, justice, and reconciliation. On this International Day of Peace, let us remember and keep in mind that peace sustains the dreams of generations, nurtures a just society, and safeguards the integrity of creation to the benefit of all of God’s creation.

May this peace that transcends all understanding prevail in Africa and our world as a whole. Amen.
