The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus to host the 2025 All Africa Youth Congress
Since its inauguration in Accra, Ghana, in 2022, the All Africa Youth Congress (AAYC) campaign on the theme, ‘Africa: My Home. My Future.’ has become a revolutionary force emitting impulses of change that compel youth in AACC member churches to own and work to realize the 17 SDGS and the AU Agenda 2063. The Pan-African campaign mobilizes and empowers African youth to invest their resources, gifts, and talents in building the continent into a prosperous, peaceful, and secure place they want it to be, live in, and desire to leave behind for their future descendants to also live in and flourish.
On the 26th of September 2024, the AACC General Secretary, Rev Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, received a letter from the President of the Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), Rev Dr Yonas Dibisa, communicating EECMY’s willingness to host the AAYC tentatively scheduled for 31st October to 5th November 2025. This comes after the General Secretary presented the All Africa Youth Network’s desire for the congress in Addis Ababa to the AACC members in Ethiopia in June this year.
“We feel deeply honored by the opportunity to host such a significant event and are grateful for the trust placed in the EECMY. We look forward to further discussions to ensure the success of this important gathering.” Reads the letter.
The second AAYC will be held under the theme Africa: My Home. My Future, and will feature events under five sub-themes: Pan-Africanism and Active Citizenship, Human Dignity and Socioeconomic Justice, Peace and Security, Ethical Leadership, and Eco-Stewardship.
“The AACC received this great news with thanksgiving to God and with deep gratitude to EECMY for not only its commitment to the life and work of the AACC but also the willingness to invest in the leadership of the African young people.” Noted Rev. Dr. Fidon in his response to Rev Dr. Yonas.
According to the AACC Executive Secretary, Youth, Brian Muyunga over 500 youth leaders from 43 African countries and the Diaspora will participate in this Pan-African and Ecumenical gathering.
“We intend to open the registration portal for participants in January 2025.” He affirmed.
