In Solidarity with The People Affected by The Flooding in Nigeria

Dear Esteem Church Leaders,
Brothers and Sisters,

IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE FLOODING IN NIGERIA

The All Africa Conference of Churches is disturbed by the sad news of the death of over six hundred (600) people mostly women and children as a result of the flooding caused by unprecedented heavy rains and the release of excess water from the Lagdo dam. We are worried also because these unfortunate occurrences have led to the displacement of thousands of people from their homes in the affected communities, wiping out their livelihoods which will be hard to recover and rebuild.

The AACC conveys its deepest condolences to all the families that lost loved ones due to the disasters. We pray to God to console the grieving families and communities.

The AACC sympathizes with people, churches, and the government of Nigeria over such undesirable outcomes of the flooding. We are aware of the calling of the churches to provide humanitarian accompaniment to support those in need, even when the churches are part of the victims.

The AACC calls on the government and all relevant agencies to be very intentional in mitigating the effects of climate change with adaptation mechanisms while ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to prevent the destruction of lives and property from preventable causes.

May God of life, love, peace, and comfort act in this situation!

"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me". (Psalm 23:4)

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki
